Mt Brow Winery is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery in the Shaws Flat Area on the outskirts of Sonora. Their goal is to produce wines using only grapes from their vineyard as well as other local foothill vineyards. Mt Brow’s vineyard produces Sangiovese, Merlot and Zinfandel grapes with a total of 6.5 acres dedicated to the vines. Other varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and several blends which are created using grapes from other Sonora vineyards and vineyards in Amador County.
The Owners, Jim and Pam Costello, take great pride in producing small batches of quality wine and make a special effort to personally attend to each vine. This is apparent when you meet them as they are more than happy to explain the wine making operation and encourage visitors to explore the property. If you ask politely you might even persuade Jim into taking you on a tour of his prided Model A garage, which, for the classic car buff or the mechanically inclined is very impressive. The best part about visiting Mt Brow Winery is that the tastings are free and there is a generous 10 wines on the tasting menu.
Mt Brow Winery is open Saturdays 12-5 pm and Sundays 12:30-4:30 pm for wine tasting. The address is 10850 Mt Brow Rd, Sonora, CA or you can contact the tasting room at (209) 532-8491.
